Deadites Online Forums - [CLOSED] Evil Dead Television Series [Spoilers Thread]oh, nobody denies that 3, 2 and 1 are shared continuity by this point; that's Word of God via everybody, including Sam.  The question has always been which AOD ending is canon and how the remake fits in, and thus how ASVED fits in.  The thing about the remake is that if you study the press surrounding it (which I did, 'cause I had to stay abreast of everything for my Bruce Tumblr), they started out with one POV during the shoot - that was mainly Fede's - that the movie takes place in an alternate universe where Ash was dead.  This is NOT where they started out when Fede wrote the script - he wanted to have Ash kill Mia in the climax, but Bruce said no, he didn't want his cameo to loom over everything and distract.  So Fede rewrote the ending, which got shot but discarded after the preview testing process.  Once Bruce's last- minute (literally according to both their tellings) cameo was filmed, he reversed that opinion - this was Ash, not Bruce, saying 'Groovy', so he's somehow alive in the same continuity.  But the thing about permanently uniting both remake and OG franchise has always been a problem for one reason: Sam and Bruce don't want the two continuities to meet, via their own proclamations  (Bruce declared he wanted to do it - once - and suddenly backed off when the series was greenlit.  Now they talk about the remake sequel happening somewhere down the line but not connecting to current continuity).  You also end up having to deal with the thorny fact that the remake is (intendedly) serious and the main franchise officially kerns closer to horror comedy, which they said the series will use.  Also, let's face it - the overlap between original trilogy fans and remake fans is pretty slim, and the remake was a flash in the pan for a lot of horror fans. They thought they were getting an enduring secondary fandom out of this and seemed somewhat surprised that the public treated it like just another horror movie.  On all of this I'm more likely to believe them versus Tom, even with Sam/Rob/Bruce's love of tweaking the fanase; Tom doesn't have any involvement with the franchise's current production at this point after all, and to the best of my knowledge.  Heck, the reason why the Nec has no face in the remake is because Tom pulled his approval for them to use his design, if I remember right. As for comics continuity figuring into any of this, Sam and Bruce (Bruce especially) are on- record with disliking what Dynamite's done with the franchise.  Bruce refuses to sign Dynamite comicbooks when they're brought to him.  The AOD side of the fandom is licensed independently through Universal, and the three of them don't get approval on anything that's done with the AOD version of Ash because of that; this is why they had failed negotiations with Universal for Ash vs ED that they abandoned and thus can't use Ash's gauntlet hand, specific characters and footage from AOD, and the S- Mart is no more in the franchise.  One example of Universal doing this:  when Telltale Games came out with Ash as a playable character in their Poker Nights franchise, they not only picked someone other than Bruce to voice him, Bruce had no idea about the game, and had people congratulating him for his VA work on Twitter over something he never even knew about.  That's why I'm of the opinion that linear continuity is dead, long live anything going.
